Chiggers are one thing I never planned on getting when we went camping. I woke up in the middle of the night scratching, and at first I thought I was allegic to something. I couldn't sleep the rest of the night.
I had some baking soda in my camping supplies, and the Afterbite, which gave me temporary relief. We wound up leaving the campsite a day early because I was so miserable.
Searches on the Internet were little help. Most reccommended vinegar and a warm shower. All the vinegar did was aggravate the chiggars. I had too many to put fingernail polish on them too!
What fixed me right up was boric acid mixed with water and put in a little spray bottle. When I sprayed myself... immediate relief! You never saw anyone so happy.
It still took several weeks for the chiggars to heal, and I will never wander off into the weeds when we go camping again.
