D-Mannose/Uva Ursi cocktail

Theresa in CA - best
In a glass with 6oz of water mix:
1-1/2 tsp. D-Mannose powder
1 Dropper full of Uva Ursi extract
and 2 Tbsp. of Cranberry concentrate (Non sweetened.)
do this 3x's a day for 1 week then 2 x's for another week. Try to avoid foods with WHITE flour, artificial sweetners (Stevia is ok)and diet drinks. This cleared up the worst kidney infection I ever had. I was doubled over with back pain and it hurt to breathe in. After the 2nd day of this regimen I had no more pain. Drink a lot of water!!

AZO and Vitamin C, easy and effective!

Nicole W. in San Diego, CA - best
I have very bad and uncomfortable UTIs/bladder infections. Thank goodness for this website for pointing me in the right direction or I would probably be staying home from work tomorrow to avoid having to be around people and spend more time in the bathroom :( enough blabbing, this is what I used:

Took 1000 mg Vitamin C
Followed by two tablets of AZO
Followed by two tall glasses of water

Those who drink a lot of water may want to drink double this amount. Within approximately 40 minutes the discomfort was gone. I'm going to keep drinking water and taking the AZO, but we all know that making a doctor appointment can take days, and we want to treat the immediate symptoms so we can live our daily lives until then.

Antibacterial hand soap in bathwater

Teresa in Iowa - best
My little girls had many bladder infections until I threw away their regular bubble bath. Their bubble bath was too harsh for them to bathe in. So one day, when they were out of the bubble bath, I substituted antibacterial hand soap into their water. They never had trouble with infections again!

NO CAFFEINE and LOTS OF WATER

Joy Torgeson in Perkasie, PA - best
I have had bladder infections since I was 2 years old and my mom tried everything so the pain would stop; cranberry juice/pills, lots and lots of water, vitamin C tablets, urinating frequently, etc...Those things probably helped but the thing that helped the most was NOT drinking or eating any caffeine. Once I eat or drink any caffeine I get massive burning instantly. Same goes for acidic foods such as spahgetti sauce and hot foods like salsa...

Through the years they have improved a lot and I also take better care of myself.

I also truely believe that after intercourse you HAVE TO make sure to urinate to flush out any bacteria that travels into your urithra. This is one of the reason I truely believe I get Bladder Infections and UTI's

They are a horrible and painful thing to live with and I hate putting antibiotics in my body.

D-Mannose!

Deni in San Bernardino, CA - best
I have had recurrent bladder infections since 1995 and of course the doctors wanted me to take low-dose antibiotics, which I refuse to do. I have been drinking at least 64oz of water a day since 1995 and that has helped to minimize the infections. Recently I have been married after being celibate for 7 years, and of course I get a bladder infection immediately! I tried D-Mannose and it worked for me, I was amazed.

I took 1-1/2 tsp in 6oz water every couple hours for a few days. Now I take a dose as a preventative immediately after intercourse and of course, drink plenty of water to flush it out. I also take cranberry supplements which never worked for me before but it is supposed to enhance the D-Mannose. What a simple and inexpensive thing. I tell everyone about this now.

Lots of water and water with baking soda

Roberta Newman in New York, NY - best
Yesterday, what started out seeming like a minor thing quickly escalated into something that made me wonder if I should hightail it to the nearest emergency room: by evening I had a lot of pain in my bladder and had very bloody urine: pink with clots in it. And I had chills. I read some of the posts on this list and immediately began drinking water - a glass every 20 minutes for a few hours, and also once or twice I drank a glass of warm water with about a tbsp of baking soda in it. Over the hours, my symptoms gradually improved to the point where I am sitting here the next morning, basically asymptomatic, though on the way to the doctor later as a precaution. I think the drinking of lots of water is key - as I have read, it flushes out the bacteria. After I started to improve, I cut the water to about one glass or so an hour and every time I got up in the night, I drank a glass of water.

Flush it + Vitamin C

Busy me in Chicago, IL - best
When I got a UTI two weeks ago, I didn't have time to go to the doctor so I searched the internet and found this site. After reading the remedies posted here I tried the Vitamin C remedy and the terrible pain was gone that day.

I first drank a full 16 oz glass of water and took 1000 mg Vitamin C. I had been drinking cranberry juice all morning, which I'm sure helps, but I skipped the water because I was drinking juice. DO NOT stop drinking water. Don't give the bacteria a chance to take over: flush it.

My trick was to drink another full glass of water with a 500 mg Vitamin C pill each time I would return from the bathroom as a reminder; that way I made sure I drank enough water and kept the urine acidic like it was suggested. I probably went to the bathroom once every hour or two. Some other remedies suggest 1000 mg a day, and I was probably taking four times as much the first few days (500 mg with each glass of water) but I've taken excess vitamin C before in my life and it has never caused negative effects.

If you do this, the pain will be gone in one afternoon but DO NOT stop the water intake + 500 mg Vitamin C for a week, because remember you’re not killing the bacteria, you’re just trying to flush it. You might be tempted to if you don’t feel any more discomfort, but drinking water is good for you anyway. Don’t stop for a week!

After a week I stopped taking the excess water + vitamin c (now probably I’m down to 1000 mg per day). It's been two weeks since I first got rid of the UTI symptoms and I'm confident that the infection is gone.

Good luck!!

Bladder Pain

Becky in NC - best
I've had bladder problems (cystitis) for years brought on mostly from sensitivities to coffee/tea/chocolate. I've tried Azo Standard, Urised (prescription medicine) and cranberry capsules but for me none worked as good as three Ibuprofens. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory medication which decreases the irritation in the bladder. I've also found that Alka-Seltzer works too but I prefer Ibuprofen.

3 household ingredients that give immediate relief

Renee in Canada - best
I suffer from chronic bladder and kidney infections, more often then most, every 2-4 weeks. I have tried changing everything from clothing, diet, and daily routines. Nothing worked, doctors kept trying to push a daily preventative antibiotic but I don't believe that medication should be preventative. That's when I found this website. Those of us who have suffered with these infections before are often able to tell when we are going to get the infection, so I was able to find relief before or as soon as it the pain and frequency started.
1. 1/2 table spoon of baking soda dissolved in warm water. Drink.
2. 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt dissolved in warm water. Drink.
3. Take 1000 mg of vitamin C.

All things most of us have around the house and relief comes within 20 minutes.

Hope it works as well for you!

asparagus

Moni in Michigan - best
I'm really surprised that no one has posted about this yet. I've had my share of UTI's or bladder infections. I guess they are pretty much the same thing. Burning urination and really painful in the bladder area. I used to have to always go to the Dr. in order to get rid of these. Then I started getting them with my last pregnancy and didn't want the meds.

I read somewhere online that eating asparagus and drinking the water it was cooked in was prescribed by Dr's in Germany as it's a natural source of sulfur. I don't know if that's true but I tried it and it worked for me. I've used it several times. The pain goes away or is drastically reduced by the next day and I save myself a Dr's visit. I've used fresh cooked and canned. The easiest way is just to open a 12 oz can of asparagus eat as much of the pieces as I can and then hold my nose and drink the water it's packed in. Usually all it takes is one can but sometimes I need a second one the next day to totally get rid of the pain.

Eating asparagus does make peoples urine smell funny and apparently it washes out infection too. Oh yeah and make sure you're drinking enough water. Drinking water is not the cure but it is healthy and can prevent it from coming back.

Uva Ursi, D-manossse, AZO standard

Don in Austin - three stars
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned UVA URSI. Its a natural herb. Supposed to not only treat bladder infection, but cure it. Definately google this herb. Theres surprising information about it.

1. Get AZO standard. This does not cure UTI, just helps with pain. Only take for 2 days.
2. At same time, start uva ursi. Take for several days. Do not take for more than 2 weeks. Do not take cranberry or vitamin C while taking uva ursi. The herb makes your body alkaline, and the citrus and fruits make it acidic, which cancels out the affects of uva ursi. Take 3-4k mg a day.
4. D-Manosse. take every 3 hours. about 2.5g.
3. Get some AZO test strips after a few days and you can see if you have a UTI at home.

I'm only 2 days into my routine, trying to avoid antibiotics.

Vitamin C

Diane in Camarillo, CA - best
Taking 1000 MG a day will cure this painful infection. Almost immediately. It truly worked for me and no more doctor visits for a urine sample and medicine. I take 1000 MG of vitamin C daily to prevent it from happening again.

Orange juice & salt

Vicki in Homeland, CA - best
I came to this page in desperation only this morning and only had on hand, one of the many suggestions, which happened to be orange juice and salt. Instant relief of pain! I only drank a small dixie cup and the pain was gone and I was back on track. I still plan on going to the doctors, since I doubt this would cure it, but works far better then any over the counter products for UTI pain. Awesome!!
