Salt water

Loving and concerned in Houston, Tx - three stars
Please please please do not and I repeat do not try the vicks vapor rub in your eyes!!!!!!!!!Some people are so mean and devilish. This will not only burn like h&^% but also could cause you to have to go to the ER. I am a nursing student at the moment and growing up my mom used lightly salted water drops. Tears are naturally made of salt so try only natural and medical prescriptions given from a Dr. The warm washcloth which should not be used by anyone after use of the "pink eye wearer" is also a great relief for the itchiness. God bless....and hope you get relief.

Distilled water

That Secret Doctor in Anytown, AT 55555 - best
I got this idea for pink eye from a friend who's mother is really into home remedies. I tried it once last year when I had pink eye, and I have pink eye right now and just finished up with a round...

1. Boil purified/distilled water from a jug or bottle. (Can be found at most grocery stores on the baby food isle - commonly used for baby formula.)

2. While water is still hot dip a washcloth in the water until it is completely wet. Ring out and let cool as little as possibly before the treatment, without burning your eye! (Test it on the inside of your wrist. If it's not too hot on the inside of your wrist, then you're ready to go!)

3. Cup the hot washcloth over your eye, leaving your eye open, but without touching your eye ball. (Leave a gap between the washcloth and your eye.) It is the steam from the washcloth that works the magic!

4. Continue holding the washcloth over your eye until the washcloth is completely cool. Repeat at least 3x a day.

This will clear it up by the next day! Each treatment gives temporary relief and by the next day the pink eye should be gone! It might not be as quick as some of these, but it's great if you don't want soap, shampoo, or lemon in your eyes!

I would just like to note all distilled water is, is boiled water then cooled.

Breast milk really does work

jo smith in ohio - best
I noticed yesterday that my two-year-old was rubbing his eye a lot, and upon closer inspection I saw the green junk in the corner and as the evening wore on it got worse. He started crying and rubbing his eye and couldn't be consoled. Half an hour after he went to sleep his eye was already stuck shut. I wiped it with a warm washcloth until he could open it and put a few drops of breast milk in it. He didn't even flinch, so it's non-abrasive to the eye. I know that when you get eyedrops over the counter or by prescription they burn a lot, so I was happy to have a remedy that didn't make him cry.

When he woke up this morning his eye wasn't stuck shut, there was very little goop in it, and you could hardly tell there was anything wrong with it. I've given him the breast milk treatment twice so far today and wiped his eye with a warm washcloth afterward. He isn't complaining today and his eye is all but clear.

Distilled water and Vix Vapor Rub ( visine)

Jen and Ashley in New Carlisle, Indiana - best
Boil the bottled water and put your head over the pan and let the steam flow into your eye. Then put Vix Vapor Rub on the upper and lower part of the eye. If the steam is to hot put in a little shot glass or cup and put over eye. Do this for about a half an hour and it should start to clear up right away, if eye gets dry or starts to sting use the Visine and it will help extremely well:)

I had pink eye REALLY BAD and I was using the medicine the doctors gave me and it made it worse, then I tried this and it cleared it up emencely.

Doc prescription vs. Neosporin

Hand in Hand in Miami,Fl. USA - best
Two days ago I noticed that I had contracted a severe case of pink eye. I visited many different websites in search of a nautral remedy because I was hesitant to go to the Doctor.
I tried a couple suggestions green tea, honey and lemon juice along with Neosporin. My eyes began to feel better but after constant pressure from my mother I eventually gave in saw a doctor.

He prescribed me an eye drop that cost $75.00 and told me that the infection should clear up in a couple days. I decided to take a closer look at the ingredients and discovered that the Neosporin contained the exact ingredients of the medicine that I was prescribed.
The prescription drops did not work any faster or provided any immediate relief upon me using it the first time. I know that it would eventually take care of the infection but who is to say that the home remedy would have not done the exact same thing. Had it to do all over again I would have continued to use the home remedy and just be patient. I would have save myself $180 bucks (docs visit $105 + eye drops $75).

Home remedy: wash infected eye with tea
then apply 2 drops of the following mixture:
1tsp honey. 1/4 tsp lemon juice. 1tsp tea

Then apply neosporin around eyelid and tear duct.

Repeat 3x per day.

Saltwater

batsoutofhell in rural Missiori - best
I have heard of using saltwater for pink eye in humans, but I have used it in cattle. We had a calf that had ulcerated pink eye in both eyes and modern vet. meds. were not working. Took table salt and warm water, heavy on the salt, and applyed it to both eyes. It is really going to hurt, but with a few days of treatment a calf that had no vision due to pink eye was able to see. This case was extreamly sever so it took more time than normal for total healing to occur. Farmers have successfuly used this treatment when modern meds. wouldn't work.

Salt water and contact solution- worked like a charm!

Liz in Florence, Italy - good
I woke up this morning with pretty bad pink eye in both eyes- probably from sleeping with my contacts in a few days ago. I am currently studying in Italy and have no access to a doctor, so I needed a quick, natural fix. Anyway, after searching online I decided to drop some soft contact cleaning solution into my eyes, which offered some immediate relief and didnt sting at all. Then I boiled water, rinsed a glass with some of the sterilized water, then poured the rest of the water over some salt in the cleaned glass. I waited a few minutes for the solution to cool and for the salt to dissolve and then applied to my eyes with q-tips-- one for each eye!

My pink eye is completely gone from my left eye and almost gone from my right. I will be repeating these steps before I go to bed tonight and hopefully by the morning I should be good to go!

Breast milk and a Chamomile tea bag

tillsbee in Castro Valley, CA USA - best
I had a case of pink eye a day or so ago and searched for natural cures online. Quite a few people recommended using breastmilk or chamomile. I did both. I took some breastmilk and placed a few drops in my eye and then warmed up a Chamomile tea bag and placed it on my eye for about 15 - 20 minutes. I did this 3 times a day for a day and a half and the pink eye was gone surprisingly fast.

Baby shampoo, saline and lemon....

Erikainarizona in Mesa, AZ USA - best
I woke up with an awful case of pink eye yesterday. After reading through this I decided to try baby shampoo and saline first, since it sounded less painful than a lot of the other remedies. It seemed to help temporarily and I'm sure if I would have continued use, it would have cleared up in three days, however, it was so painful, I decided to try the lemon. Within twenty minutes and two lemon treatments,my eye's are almost 100% better. I treated my eye's twice today so far with the lemon , and will do it once more b4 bed. All I did was dab my finger in the lemon and apply it to the tear ducts. I'm not going to sugar coat it, it burns!!! It's worth it though, I'm pretty sure I'm in the clear! Good luck!
