Pretzles and water

Joyce H in Chesapeake, VA - best
For INSTANT relief of heartburn eat about 4-6 pretzles and follow with a glass of water. I've had heartburn for 40 years and eating Tums after dinner was the norm. About 6 years ago I had pretzles after dinner and realized I no longer needed Tums, have not bought Tums since. Eat a few pretzles with a few sips of water for immediate relief!

Baking soda

James in victorville, ca - best
In a 8oz. glass filled with water you add 1 tblspn of baking soda, take it like you would a shot glass. May taste salty but it works instantly. You also might have a few loud burps afterwards, but its worth it.

Low Sugar Low Carb Diet

Kelly in Gulf coast Mississippi - best
I had chronic heartburn. Would wake up in the morning with it before eating or drinking anything. I stopped eating the obvious sugars, pasta, potatoes, and rice. No more heartburn! The effects were evident within a few days. I feel great and have lost some weight too. Hope this helps. Heartburn is no fun.

A simple cure you wont believe

Anonymous in watkins in tennessee - best
Did you know that body builders use coral calcium to prevent lactic acid in the body and cause joints to hurt before they work out? Well this works for whole body, coral calcium keeps the body from getting too acid. Another cure you wont believe, is Grapefruit juice, most people think grape fruit is acidic like an orange, but not true, it is a acid neutralizer believe it or not! Frink half a glass a day, you will notice your indigestion stays gone. Drink the no sugar added grapefruit juice.

NATURAL DISTILLED APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, W/ The Mother in it

HLFJerry in Western North Carolina - best
For well over two years now I have been relatively acid reflux and heartburn free.
I had been diagnosed, in 1975 with a hiatal hernia and accompanying acid reflux/severe heartburn. Over the past 30+ years I had used prescriptions filled for every kind of acid reflux/heartburn pain reliever known to man, plus over-the-counter stuff too. VERRRRY EXPENSIVE!

Then, a friend told me about his use of inexpensive Natural Apple Cider Vinegar, with the mother, (that is the dust like sedimentation at the bottom of the bottle). He said to use 2-3 tbspn mixed in a few ounces of water, or you can take them straight up if you like. It tastes terrble, but sure does the trick. Upon swallowing it I can feel the pain subside as it goes down.
I started using it two - three times per day, instead of the purple pill, and it not only gave me instant relief, but also has healed my GI Tract.
I now only require maintenance doses every 4-6 weeks when I feel pain symptoms coming on.
I guess Grandma was right, "an apple a day, keeps the Dr. away".

Sounds crazy, but....

mlj3 in ALABAMA - best
Cold MILK has always cured my nausea and/or heartburn. For years, it's been my first choice for relief. I know now they say milk only worsens symptoms, but not for me. It always settles my tummy and relieves my heartburn.

Cider and Soda for heart burn.

Aaron. in Australia. - best
If prescription and over the counter medications don't work for you either then try this cheap and effective remedy for Acid reflux and Heartburn. Take Half a glass of room temp water, 1/2 teaspoon of Baking Soda and 2 Tablespoons of Organic Apple Cider Vinegar first thing in the morning, wait an hour before eating and then repeat this at night before bed.

The reason you need to take the mixture is to Alkalize the stomach which will reduce acidity in the gut. Do this for 2 weeks. You should avoid Caffeine, Sugars, Meats, and Dairy foods as these are Acid forming. Replace them with Alkaline forming foods such as Green vegetables, Salads, Fish and Fresh Fruits.

You will be amazed out how much energy you will have and you will also loose weight without trying. It is also important to remain positive as you may find it depressing at first to cut out all these foods your so used to eating, positive thinking has a lot more effect on our general health than we realize.

It is also important to do 20 minutes of Aerobic exercise a day to get oxygen pumping through the blood to reduce lactic acid and fat build up. Once the 2 weeks are up you should follow up with daily maintenance on the stomach, take Half a teaspoon of baking soda in the Half glass of water to keep the stomach Alkaline. By this stage your heartburn should have subsided completely, you can now slowly re- introduce some of the foods we cut out in the beginning, remember moderation is the key.

Apple Cider Vinegar and licorice

Jacob in Los Angeles, CA - good
Apple cider vinegar cured my heartburn like a miracle. Get the natural kind if you can, with sediment at the bottom of the bottle. (If you don't live near a natural foods store, just buy the regular kind at a grocery store and it will work almost as well.) Dissolve 2 tablespoons in a cup of water and sip it slowly once a day as a preventative. Or take 2 tablespoons straight for immediate relief. (It will burn for a few seconds, then after 5 minutes you'll belch and then feel a lot better.) This changed my life. Now I can eat and drink whatever I want, and sleep all night without any disturbance.

I also drink a cup of licorice tea everyday, because the person who suggested the vinegar said licorice would help heal a damaged esophagus. I don't know if it's helping, but I sure feel a lot better!

Gas Relief for Babies

Patricia in Humboldt, Kansas, USA - best
During the '70's and '80's I had 6 babies all of which had tummy aches and gas. I would drop a peppermint disc into a warm bottle of water, swish it around a bit and give it to my baby. This remedy never failed once, it proved true every time.

Thinking about Partying? Think Again

John Bennett in Toledo - best
If you get heartburn real easy, you might as well forget about partying, especially when the holidays come around. Check out this list that the International Foundation for Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders says triggers heartburn:

-Holiday Feasts
-Late Night Snacks
-Too Much to Drink
-Cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and chewing tobacco
-Tea, coffee, cola, and other drinks with caffeine.
-Chocolate
-Milk
-Citrus fruits and Juices
-Peppermint
-Tomatoes and tomato products
-Fried fatty and spicy foods.

Geezz there goes my favorite foods :(
